Adolf Mordhorst

Adolf Hermann Mordhorst (born March 18, 1866 in Glückstadt ; † February 27, 1951 in Flensburg ) was a German Evangelical - Lutheran theologian , pastor , provost and bishop for Holstein of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schleswig-Holstein .

Live and act

After studying Protestant theology in Kiel and Berlin , Mordhorst was ordained in 1890 and provincial vicar in Schleswig-Friedrichsberg . In 1891 he went to Süderhastedt as an assistant chaplain and became a pastor there from 1893. In 1899 he moved to the parish of Schleswig-Friedrichsberg and in 1908 was appointed provost and pastor in Kiel. There he was chairman of the "Kieler Stadtmission eV" from 1908 to 1932 and since 1910 consistorial councilor and spiritual member of the ev.-luth. Consistory for the Province of Schleswig-Holstein .

In 1917 he became general superintendent for Holstein in the ev.-luth. Church of the Province of Schleswig-Holstein. In 1921 he received an honorary doctorate from the theological faculty of Kiel University . From 1923 to 1934 he was chairman of the “Ev. State Welfare Service for Schleswig-Holstein ". In 1923 he became an honorary member of the Kiel Wingolf .

Mordhorst was temporarily a member of the German Evangelical Church Committee and the German Evangelical Church Federation Council .

On October 16, 1924 he became bishop for Holstein of the Ev.-Luth. State Church of Schleswig-Holstein elected. On September 12, 1933, his office (and that of his colleague Eduard Völkel ) was abolished by the regional synod of the Schleswig-Holstein regional church and Mordhorst was on leave with immediate effect by the regional church committee. On January 1, 1934, he was retired.

From 1934 to 1947 Mordhorst was chairman of the state association for internal mission Schleswig-Holstein . He worked temporarily on the board of the Association for Schleswig-Holstein Church History.
