Adolf Wilhelm Schipper (born November 12, 1873 in Bremerhaven , † November 4, 1915 at Banyo ) was a German officer in the Imperial Protection Force and district leader in Cameroon .

Life

Schipper joined after attending high school in 1894 as a cadet in Samland Engineer Battalion no. 18 in the Prussian army one, was in the same year cadet promoted and 1895 to lieutenant . In 1902 he resigned from the army and joined the Imperial Protection Force for Cameroon . In 1905 he was promoted to first lieutenant and in 1912 to captain . On July 4, 1912, he received his departure from the Schutztruppe and transferred to the civil administration.

Initially deployed in northern Cameroon (Kusseri, post leader in Binder in 1905), Schipper later moved to the south-east of the country as station manager of Dume and company commander of the 9th company of the protection force. He was largely responsible for the development of the Dume district . A particular concern for him was the protection of the indigenous population from exploitation by the merchants, but he himself also took restrictive measures against societies that refused to comply with the station's orders. After differences with the superiors him captains Dominik and Marschner in connection with the violent conflict against the Omvang and North Makaa he fell at the tips of the military administration in disgrace and was temporarily from service suspended . Based on his experience, the government enabled him to transfer to civil administration in 1912. In his last years he was the district administrator for the Ossidinge district in the grasslands of Western Cameroon. In the First World War he made himself available again to the protection force, fell in the fighting around Banyo and was buried in the local cemetery.
