Adolf von Wagner

Adolf Ritter von Wagner (born May 11, 1935 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) is a former German ambassador .

After graduating from high school in Korntal in 1954 , he studied law , modern history and political science in Tübingen , Lausanne ( Switzerland ) and Santiago de Compostela ( Spain ). Since his studies in Tübingen, Ritter von Wagner has been a member of the AV Virtembergia zu Tübingen student association . He passed his first state examination in law in 1958 in Tübingen. In 1962 he received his doctorate in political science and modern history and entered the higher foreign service .

Before taking his career exam in 1964, he worked at the Consulate General in Marseille in 1962/63 , after which he was initially employed in the Eastern Europe department and in the press department of the Foreign Office . He was then from 1966 to 1970 in the Political Department of the Embassy in Washington responsible for disarmament and arms control.

From 1970 to 1973 he was press officer at the embassy in Santiago de Chile . From 1973 to 1977 he worked in the Foreign Office in Bonn for the peaceful use of nuclear energy and international space cooperation. It was used in Vienna in the negotiations on mutual and balanced troop reductions ( MBFR ). From 1980 to 1983 he was responsible for negotiating the INF contract in Bonn . From 1983 to 1986 he worked as a science officer at the embassy in Moscow . From 1986 to 1990 he headed the department for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and international space cooperation at the Foreign Office in Bonn and was head of the crisis team after the Chernobyl reactor disaster .

From 1990 to 1993 he was the head of the German delegation to the disarmament conference in Geneva . In 1992, Adolf von Wagner led the negotiations on the Chemical Weapons Convention in Geneva with great skill and commitment .

From 1993 to 1997 he headed the sub-department for international cooperation in science and technology in the Foreign Office. From October 10 to 12, 1995, von Wagner chaired the tenth general assembly of the Missile Technology Control Regime in Bonn and held a leading position in the Foreign Ministry.

From 1997 to 2000 he headed the embassy in Buenos Aires until his retirement .

Adolf Ritter von Wagner is married and has three grown sons.
