Adrián Ben Montenegro (born August 4, 1998 in Viveiro , Galicia ) is a Spanish athlete who specializes in medium-distance runs .

Athletic career

Adrián Ben has been competing in international competitions since 2014, in addition to the middle distance at that time also in the 2000 meter obstacle course. Over this distance he took part in a qualifying competition in Baku for the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, but in fifth place he missed the chance of a ticket. A year later he competed in the obstacle course at the U18 World Championships in Cali. There he finished in 5: 45.89 minutes. sixth place.

From 2016 onwards, he largely renounced the obstacle course competitions and focused more on the middle distance. At the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, he failed over 1500 m in the semifinals. A year later he won in 3: 57.32 minutes. Bronze at the U20 European Championships in Grosseto. As part of the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala, he also took part in the U20 race, but could not achieve a top placement there. At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018, his first international championships among adults, he reached the semifinals over 800 m and ended up in 17th place overall.

After significantly improving his times over 800 m in 2018, he competed at the 2019 World Championships in Doha over this distance . In the semifinals he put in 1: 44.97 min. set a new best time and moved into the final, in which he finished sixth. Previously, he could not achieve any top placements at the European Indoor Championships and the U23 European Championships .
