Adrian Nikolaus Ritter von Barbier , from 1816 Freiherr von Barbier (born July 10, 1758 in Brussels , † October 12, 1840 in Vienna ) was a statesman, Austrian k.k. real secret councilor and governor of the Austrian National Bank .

Life

Barbier joined the Austrian state service in 1777, became a member of the Chamber of Accounts in 1791, and a Domain and Finance Councilor in 1794. In 1792 and 1794 his prudence saved a significant part of the Austrian state property in the Netherlands. In 1802 barber became court counselor at the kk general court chamber.

In 1809 and 1810 he was invited to the conferences held in Ofen ( Budapest ) on the peace negotiations between Napoleon and Francis I of Austria , Prince Johann I of Liechtenstein with the French plenipotentiary Jean-Baptiste Nompère Count of Champagny and opposed his exaggerated demands in Austria's interest to such an extent that Count Champagny protested Barbier's presence at the negotiations.

He was promoted to Vice-President of the Imperial General Court Chamber and to the Real Privy Council . In 1814 barber was in the Allied Army in the wake of the highest army administration, where he served so successfully that he was awarded the golden civil cross of honor by the emperor . He attended the conferences of the Congress of Vienna and led three commissions in 1815. Barbier received the Commander's Cross of the Order of St. Stephen and was elevated to the status of Austrian baron on January 9, 1816.

After Adrian Nicolaus Freiherr von Barbier had lived in Paris for some time, he returned to Vienna and was appointed by the Emperor to the post of governor at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank , from which position he retired in 1837 and on this occasion the Grand Cross of Leopold Order received.

Her marriage to Maria Theresia von Deplancq, daughter of the Imperial Dutch State and Finance Councilor Henri Ritter von Deplancq, gave birth to four daughters.
