Adrian Dumitru Popa (born July 24, 1988 in Horezu ) is a Romanian football player . He has been under contract with Reading FC in the Football League Championship since January 2017 .

Career

society

Popa's career began in 2006 in the second team of FCU Politehnica Timișoara , which was playing in Liga II at the time . After relegation in 2008 he was first loaned to second division CS Buftea , and in early 2009 to Gloria Buzau in Liga 1 . After the end of the loan deal, Universitatea Cluj signed him , which played in Liga II. In 2010 he was signed to the ambitious CS Concordia Chiajna . In the 2010/11 season he was promoted to the House of Lords. There he secured relegation with his team. After three goals in the first four games of the 2012/13 season , he moved to record champions Steaua Bucharest , with whom he was able to win the championship at the end of the season. He was able to repeat this success a year later, with seven hits in the 2013/14 season .

In the following seasons 2014/15 (28 games, 5 goals) and season 2015/16 (32 games, 4 goals) Popa was also regularly used for Steaua. In January 2017 he moved to Reading FC in the English Football League Championship . After he did not get beyond the role of supplementary player there, he was loaned to the Saudi Arabian club Al-Taawoun FC for six months in January 2018 . In December 2018 it was announced that with the end of the Bulgarian winter break in February 2019, Popa will join the Bulgarian first division club Ludogorez Razgrad on loan for the remainder of the season .

National team

Popa was appointed by national coach Victor Pițurcă for the first time in September 2012 in the circle of the Romanian national team, but initially not used there. It wasn't until a month later that he made his debut in the World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands when he came on for Gabriel Torje in the 65th minute . On March 26, 2013 he was on the starting line-up for the first time in the second leg against the same opponent.

From coach Anghel Iordănescu Popa was called up to the squad of the Romanian selection for the European Championship 2016 in France. In the EM opening game against France he was on the starting line-up, but was not used against Switzerland. Against Albania he was part of the first team again. Then the team retired as fourth in the group.
