Adriana Leon (born October 2, 1992 in Mississauga , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian national soccer player .

Career

societies

Leon started her career with the Mississauga Falcons and played from 2006 to 2010 for the CDS Cyclone's, the athletic team of the Country Day School . 2010 Leon was signed by the Toronto Lady Lynx , where she was used sporadically in three seasons. In the 2013 season she played in the newly founded National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football, initially for the Boston Breakers . At the end of June 2013, Leon moved to league rivals Chicago Red Stars , with whom they first reached the play-offs in the 2015 season. She then switched to the Western New York Flash franchise .

On September 23, 2016, FC Zurich women signed the Canadian national player. On December 1, 2016, FC Zürich Frauen announced that their contract, which expired on December 31, 2016, would not be extended. Leon, who appeared in four UEFA Women's Champions League games and five National League A games for Zurich, returned to the Boston Breakers on January 30, 2017. After the breakers' first team disbanded at the beginning of 2018, she moved on to Sky Blue FC, where she was rarely used. In June 2018, Seattle Reign FC signed Leon. In January 2019 she moved to the English club West Ham United , which had received a license for the FA Women's Super League for the 2018/19 season . The club was able to assert itself as seventh in the league and reached the final of the FA Women's Cup , which was lost 3-0 to Manchester City .

National team

Leon made her debut for the Canadian U-20 national team in January 2010. There she played eight games by 2012, scored five goals and took part in the 2010 U-20 North American Championship and the 2012 U-20 World Championship in Japan. On January 8, 2013, she made her debut in the Canadian senior team against China . She also scored the winning goal in the 1-0 win over China. She was also used in the following eight games, with the exception of the last game against England on April 7th, always in the starting line-up. She was part of the squad for the 2015 World Cup in her home country, where she was used in the three group matches and in the quarter-finals, which were lost 2-1 to England . After that, it was only used again in April 2017 in a 2-1 defeat against Germany , so it was not considered for the 2016 Olympic Games.

At the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2018 , she contributed six goals, including four goals in the 12-0 win over Cuba , to qualifying the Canadians for the 2019 World Cup. With six goals she was the second best goalscorer of the tournament.

On May 25, 2019, she was nominated for the 2019 World Cup . She was substituted on in three of the Canadians' games, but was eliminated with her team in the round of 16 against the later third Sweden .

Others

Leon actively played rugby and volleyball in his school days , in the athletic team of the Cyclons, the Country Day School . Leon was also active as a figure skater until her youth and later came to ice hockey, where she played for the Vaughan Flames and the Willowdale Red Wings in the Bantam AA League.
