Aeonium diplocyclum is a species of the genus Aeonium in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae).

Vegetative characteristics

Aeonium diplocyclum grows as a perennial , single, monocarpic rosette plant that reaches a diameter of 6 to 18 centimeters. The cup-shaped rosettes are tightly closed during the dry season , the inner leaves are upright. The obovate-spatulate, pale green, bluish tinge, bare leaves are 5 to 8 inches long and 4 to 6.5 inches wide. Towards the tip they are rounded or broadly wedge-shaped and have an attached tip or are rarely edged. The base is broadly wedge-shaped. The leaf margin is translucent and occasionally sparsely hairy, often frayed or wavy.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence has a length of 13 to 16 centimeters and a width of 15 to 20 centimeters. The densely leafed inflorescence stalk is 8 to 22 centimeters long. The 19 to 24-fold flowers are on a 2 to 4 millimeter long, glandular-haired flower stalk . Their sepals are tomentose. The deep yellow, obovate, pointed petals are 6 to 7 millimeters long and 1 to 1.5 millimeters wide. The stamens are bare.

Systematics and distribution

Aeonium diplocyclum is distributed on La Gomera , La Palma and El Hierro at altitudes of 50 to 1700 meters.

The first description as Greenovia aizoon by Carl August Bolle was published in 1859. Theodorus Hendrikus Maria Mes placed the species in the genus Aeonium in 1995 .
