history

Aerodata Flugmeßtechnik GmbH was founded on June 5, 1985. As a spin-off from the Technical University of Braunschweig , Aerodata began converting new technologies into commercial products.

The starting point for the support is the development of meteorological measuring systems for polar and marine research . Aerodata was then commissioned to convert the Dornier 228 aircraft in order to carry out scientific research in the field of meteorology and geophysics . The aircraft are looked after by Aerodata engineers during their missions in the Arctic and Antarctic .

The highly precise position determination of aircraft based on satellite-supported positioning was developed by the university, adopted by Aerodata and implemented in products such as flight inspection systems, navigation systems and monitoring systems.

In 1991 Aerodata developed its first system for measuring navigation systems for the safety of air traffic . The customer was the Federal Agency for Air Traffic Control (BFS), which used the system in a Hawker Siddeley HS 748 at eight regional airports.

Based on the know-how in the field of satellite navigation, Aerodata has been developing and producing an integrated navigation and mission management system called AeroNav since 1998 . This device is used as the primary navigation device in all helicopters of the German Federal Police .

In 1999 a Bombardier Challenger 600 aircraft was converted to a maritime patrol aircraft for the South Korean Police Department. In addition, around twenty simple mission systems were delivered to various German police units.

In the same year, Aerodata and the Australian Paspaley Pearls Group founded a joint company in the field of flight calibration : AeroPearl as a service provider for flight measurements in Australia and Southeast Asia.

Another avionics device called AeroPhone was developed in 2002 for communication in the aviation sector . This device uses the Iridium satellite network for worldwide voice and data communication from fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.

A new development of the flight inspection system, based on a modular software concept, was used for the first time in 2002/2003. The customer is the Civil Aviation Authority of Japan (JCAB), for which two Global Express are being converted into survey aircraft.

With an order for five rescue aircraft for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), it is possible to advance the development of mission systems. The Dornier 328 machines were equipped with video cameras ( FLIR ), radars and various radio devices in order to be able to coordinate rescue missions both at sea and over land.

In 2008/09 the German Federal Police received a number of video workstations and mission systems for monitoring from the air, e.g. B. the German railway network and events or demonstrations or as part of Frontex missions. The systems include workstations, cameras and satellite communication devices for the installation in the various helicopter types EC 135 , EC 155 , and Super Puma.

Aerodata has been offering maintenance of small to medium-sized aircraft since 1991. The qualification as a maintenance organization by German ( LBA ) and European aviation authorities ( EASA ) made it possible to conclude a cooperation agreement with Hawker Beechcraft , one of the most important manufacturers of business aircraft. This enables Aerodata to deliver turnkey aircraft to customers around the world.

The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) received the first of two King Air B200 sea rescue and surveillance aircraft in 2011 . Together with Italy , the AFM participates in monitoring the influx of immigrants from North Africa around the Mediterranean island of Lampedusa .
