Affenmesserkampf is a German-speaking punk band from Kiel .

Band history

Affenmesserkampf was founded in 2007 by Johannes Baumann, the singer of the post-hardcore band Tackleberry , in Kiel. Guitarist Torben Sjuts, who was previously active in the band Diane Parker's Little Accidents, is also part of the founding cast. After a brief attempt in English, the text switched to German. In 2008 the first, self-titled demo was released . In 2009 the debut album His Friends You Can't Choose Yourself via That Lux Good Records followed. The album received a benevolent review in the music magazine Intro and attracted attention due to the honest staging of the band on the record cover, to which Linus Volkmann wrote in his column “Which bands have broken punk”: "This group from Kiel has a tennis instructor look a power - but then I did see them in real life. They're just tattooed savages with shorts and a VW bus. Bitter disappointment. " The debut LP was sold out after a short time and was only reissued as an MC by Black Cat Tapes in 2017. After Nico Eckert left Affenmesserkampf in 2010, Leif Altenburg from The Bad Days joined the band as the new guitarist.

2013 changed Affenmesserkampf the label Narshardaa Records, on the second album yet and a split EP with Robinson Krause appeared.

In 2017, the third album Clowns in Wut followed - a German heart has stopped beating IV via Gunner Records. While the first releases were only available on vinyl and as a download, Clowns in Wut is also available on CD. The album is much more political than the previous releases. On the cover, in the booklet and in the song 1992 reference is made to the well-known photo of Harald Ewert with damp sweatpants, which was taken in the 1990s on the edge of the Rostock-Lichtenhagen riots .

Music genre

Affenmesserkampf play German-language punk rock with strong hardcore punk influences. The singing is screaming rather than sung. The lyrics are socially critical and tend towards cynicism and irony. The texts are reminiscent of role models such as Slime , Muff Potter and Turbostaat as well as similar bands such as Abfukk and Mülheim Asozial , to which reference is made not only in relevant reviews but also in promotional material.
