Nathan Del Amico is a very successful attorney based in New York City . His private life, however, is in ruins. His wife Mallory has left him and built a new life in another city with their daughter Bonnie. One day Del Amico is approached by the mysterious Doctor Kay, who introduces himself to him as a messenger. Messengers are able to recognize when people are about to die. Kay continues to claim he is warning people so they can get their affairs in order. Del Amico does not believe him at first, but then accidents and deaths increase in his environment. Nathan sees in it signs of his approaching death and sets off on a journey to his wife and daughter. Previously, in flashbacks, it was learned that Del Amico almost died in a car accident as a young boy.
