Agata Karczmarek

Agata Karczmarek (born Jaroszek ; born November 29, 1963 in Warsaw ; † July 18, 2016 there ) was a Polish long jumper .

She began her sporting career as an artistic gymnast . In 1980 she took part in the Olympic Games in Moscow .

After switching to athletics , she was sixth at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Indianapolis in 1987 , seventh at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and sixth at the 1989 World Indoor Championships .

After losing qualification at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in 1991 , she was tenth at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, eighth at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, sixth at the 1994 European Championships in Helsinki, seventh at the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg and at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta Sixth.

At the World Indoor Championships in Paris in 1997 , she finally won a bronze medal at a major international event. At the World Championships in Athens in 1997 and in Seville in 1999 , she was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2000 she ended her sporting career. Agata Kaczmarek died of cancer in 2016 at the age of 52.
