Agave rzedowskiana is a species ofthe agave ( agave ) genus . An English common name is "Rzedowskiana´s Agave".

description

Agave rzedowskiana grows in groups with a diameter of 50 to 80 cm. The green to bluish, linear to triangular, variably arranged leaves are 11 to 50 cm long and 7 to 14 cm wide. The leaf margins are finely serrated. The reddish to brown end thorn is up to 2.5 cm long.

The paniculate, straight to curved inflorescence is 0.4 to 1.7 5 m high. The green to purple-colored, numerous, funnel-shaped flowers are 20 to 25 mm long, appear on the upper part of the inflorescence and form to the tip. The flower tube is up to 10 mm long.

The spherical to elongated, three-chamber capsule fruits are 7 to 13 mm long and 6 to 9 mm wide. The black, hemispherical, triangular seeds are 2.5 to 3 mm long and 1 to 2 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from February to March.

Systematics and distribution

Agave rzedowskiana grows in Mexico in the states of Jalisco and Sinaloa on stony, steep slopes in woodland at an altitude of 1600 to 1700 m. It is associated with Agave pedunculifera , Agave guadalajarana , Agave pedunculifera , Mammillaria scrippsiana and numerous succulent species.

The first description by Pablo Carillo-Reyes , Rito Vega Aviña and Raymundo Ramírez-Delgadillo was published in 2003.

Agave rzedowskiana is a member of the Striatae group and is scattered on stony, steep slopes in the western part of Sierra Madre Occidental . The narrow, furrowed, hard, thick, fleshy, variably arranged leaves, the Agave striata subsp. falcata . Agave rzedowskiana is closely related to Agave dasylirioides and Agave petrophila , which however occur at different altitudes. Nevertheless, differences in size, shape, leaf and flower structure are recognizable.
