Agberto Guimarães

Agberto Guimarães ( Agberto João Conceição Guimarães; born August 18, 1957 in Belém , Pará ) is a former Brazilian middle-distance runner who was also used in the 4-by-400-meter relay because of his sprint strength .

At the Athletics South American Championships, he won bronze over 800 m in 1975 in Rio de Janeiro and gold in 1977 in Montevideo .

In 1979 he won bronze at the Pan American Games in San Juan over 800 m and 1500 m and was fifth over 800 m at the World Athletics Cup in Montreal .

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, he was fourth in the 800 m and came in fifth place with the Brazilian 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 1983 he was sixth over 800 m at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki . At the Pan American Games in Caracas , he won gold in the 800 m and 1500 m and silver in the 4-by-400-meter relay.

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he reached the semifinals over 800 m and 1500 m.

In 1985 he was third over 800 m at the Athletics World Cup in Canberra . At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he was eliminated over 800 m in the preliminary run.
