Agnieszka Gąsienica-Daniel (born December 22, 1987 in Zakopane ) is a Polish ski racer . She belongs to the A-team of the Polish Ski Association and specializes in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom . Her younger sister Maryna is also a ski racer.

biography

Gąsienica-Daniel drove her first FIS races in December 2002 and achieved good placements from the start. Only three months later she started in a Junior World Championship for the first time , but could not finish any of her races. The following year she finished 29th in giant slalom at the Junior World Championships in Maribor , and was eliminated in slalom. On February 21, 2004 she started in the European Cup for the first time and only a few days later she became Polish Junior Champion in giant slalom and Super-G.

At the age of only 16, Gąsienica-Daniel started on October 23, 2004 in the giant slalom in Sölden for the first time in a World Cup race . In the following three years she had only a few appearances in the World Cup and could not show a result in any of these races. In February 2005 she took part in a world championship for the first time and finished 31st in the giant slalom. Two weeks later she came 20th in slalom at the Junior World Championships .

The Polish woman achieved her best result at the Junior World Championships in Québec in 2006 with eleventh place in slalom, a year later she finished 12th in giant slalom and 13th in slalom. In 2006 she became Polish champion in giant slalom for the first time. Four more titles in slalom and giant slalom followed by 2010. In 2007 Gąsienica-Daniel took part in the World Championships in Åre , but fell out of both slalom and giant slalom in the first round. At the beginning of the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons she drove several races in the Nor-Am Cup and achieved third place in the giant slalom at Winter Park in December 2006 as the best result .

Since the 2007/08 season , Gąsienica-Daniel has been regularly at the start in the World Cup and on November 24th scored her first points in the giant slalom in Panorama with 26th place, but remained without further results in the rest of the winter. In September 2008, like two other Polish women, she took part in eight races of the Australia New Zealand Cup and was able to win three times and achieve two second places. With that she finished second behind her team colleague Katarzyna Karasińska and won the Super-G and Super Combination rankings.

At the start of the World Cup season 2008/09 drove the giant slalom in Soelden again number 26 and scored for the second time, a month later she came in slalom in Aspen is ranked 28th in the European Cup it reached in January 2009 in the giant slalom in Courchevel their first podium . At the 2009 World Cup in Val-d'Isère , she competed in slalom and giant slalom, but failed both times to qualify for the second run.

In the summer of 2009 Gąsienica-Daniel took part in the races of the Australia New Zealand Cup again and decided the overall standings with one victory and another five podium places. On November 28th, 2009, she achieved her best World Cup result to date with 20th place in the giant slalom in Aspen. At her first Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010 , she started in all five disciplines and always crossed the finish line with the exception of the giant slalom. Her best results were 23rd in the Super-G and 25th in the Super Combined. In the 2010/11 season, Gąsienica-Daniel remained without World Cup points for the first time in four years. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , she achieved two placings in midfield with 18th place in the super combined and 30th place in slalom. She was eliminated in giant slalom and super-G.
