Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel (born February 19, 1994 in Zakopane ) is a Polish ski racer . The multiple World Cup and Olympic participant starts in all disciplines, with her strengths being in giant slalom and super-G . Her older sister Agnieszka is also a ski racer.

biography

At the age of 15, Gąsienica-Daniel competed in her first FIS races in Scandinavia and made her debut in the giant slalom in Kvitfjell in December 2009 at the same time in the European Cup . That same winter, before her 16th birthday, she took part in a junior world championship in the Mont-Blanc region for the first time and placed 50th in the Super-G . In total, she contested 19 races at six different junior world championships, with her best result Scored fifth in the 2013 Giant Slalom in Québec . With almost 7/10 seconds behind, however, she showed a respectable distance to the medal ranks.

On December 28, 2011, she made her World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Lienz , but, like in the European Cup, it took a few years to get close to the top 30 points. In February 2013 she competed for the first time in a world championship in Schladming and finished 34th in the giant slalom. Also in 2013 she won the gold medal in giant slalom at the Universiade in Trentino . A few weeks later she also made her Olympic debut in Sochi . After she had already finished 23rd in the combination at the World Championships in St. Moritz , she managed to win World Cup points for the first time on February 24, 2017 by finishing 26th in the race in Crans-Montana . In the season 2017/18 she classified twice in the points where they ranked 17 in the parallel slalom of Courchevel achieved its best result for the time being. In the European Cup, she made a small breakthrough with a podium and further top 10 placements at the end of winter. She also achieved respectable results at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang with four placements in the top 30, including 16th place in the combination.

Agnieszka and Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel are after Dorota and Małgorzata Mogore-Tlałka the second pair of sisters from Zakopane to gain a foothold in alpine skiing.
