history

The oldest known document that mentions Aichen as a place dates back to 1275. A chapel in the area of today's place was documented as early as 1160. In 1297 a church is reported; this burned down a good 100 years later; its reconstruction in 1454 was inaugurated.

The place name varies over the course of history and is sometimes given as Eichain (1275), Aichan (1297) and Aychen (1538).

In the early Middle Ages, Aichen belonged to the knight family of the Lords of Allmut , who had their castle high above the steep slopes of the Schlucht in the district of the same name. At the end of the 13th century, this family perished. The property went to the lords of Lupfen and finally in 1352 as a pledge under Eberhard von Lupfen to Dietheim von Mundelfingen . After further pledges and disputes over the property between Götz am Stad zu Schaffhausen and Junker Johann von Heudorf , Wilhelm von Heudorf is named as the landlord in 1450 . This was ultimately so in debt that he first had to sell a quarter of the Allmut rule to the barons of Reischach in 1466 . In 1468, during the siege of Waldshut, the Swiss destroyed Allmut Castle down to its foundation walls. In 1473 Wilhelm von Heudorf had to hand over the remaining three quarters of the Allmut lordship to the knight Dietrich von Rumelang, who was neighboring on the Gutenburg (Upper Rhine), for a small price . Between 1495 and 1501 the administration of the place was transferred to the monastery of St. Blasien .

The old town hall was built in 1840 .
1857 Reopening of the real economy Zum Löwen , today's Landgasthof Löwen In
1886 the Wendelinskapelle was built in Allmut.

At the beginning of the 1970s, the town hall was housed in the newly built multi-purpose hall. At the same time the old parish church was demolished and rebuilt except for the tower and the choir .

Aichen was an independent municipality until June 30, 1974. After that, in the course of the Baden-Württemberg administrative reform of the 1970s, it was initially incorporated into the independent city of Tiengen / Hochrhein, which in turn was merged with the city of Waldshut on January 1, 1975.
