Ainārs Podziņš ( Russian Айнарс Гинтович Подзиньш / Ajnars Gintowitsch Podsinsch ; born March 16, 1992 in Jūrmala ) is a Latvian - Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Sokol Krasnoyarsk in the Vysschaja Hockey League since 2015 .
Career
Ainārs Podziņš began his career at the age of eight with the Moscow junior teams Severnaya Zvezda (North Star) and Belje Medvedi (polar bears). He started as a professional ice hockey player in the youth department of Krylja Sowetow Moscow . For his professional team, he made his debut in the Vysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, in the 2008/09 season . He has only participated in 6 games. For the 2010/11 season , the center signed a contract with Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League . Dinamo had selected him a year earlier in the KHL Junior Draft 2009 in the third round as the 59th player.
Before the 2010/11 season, the native Latvian, who grew up in Russia and was also active in the Russian U17 national team, received a Latvian passport. Initially, Podziņš, who had learned Russian as his mother tongue, had language problems within the KHL team, which mainly speaks English and Latvian. In addition, he was mainly used for Dinamo's partner team HK Riga in the multinational youth league Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga . In the further course of the season he prevailed in the KHL team and became a regular player in the play-offs. In November 2011 he played 3 games for the Russian U20 junior national team.
