Air-Trecks (A.Ts.)

A graphic of the processes around the kings and their regalia

Air-treks are, like inline skates , shoes with wheels, but they also have motors on the wheels. These make high speeds and long jumps possible. They also have a memory card that collects the driver's data. The air-treks can be put together individually from different parts. With these air-treks, young people compete against each other. Those who have formed groups and take part in these competitions are called Storm Riders .

Most Storm Riders sooner or later decide on a certain riding style, a road . Every road has a king, a particularly strong rider. There are eight kings at the beginning of the series, and more later on. The kings also have special parts in their air treks, the insignia , which give them special abilities. In order to use this optimally, however, you need a tuner that adapts the insignia to your body.

Storm Rider

The Storm Riders have a kind of ranking in which they are divided according to experience and ability. The teams can compete against teams of the same value from a higher class in different competitions in order to move up in classes “F” to “A”. Riding as a Storm Rider is subject to certain rules that every Storm Rider must adhere to. As a Storm Rider you compete in fights 5 against 5. With 3 wins in a row, the team moves up to the next higher class.

action

The student Minami “ Ikki ” Itsuki is the leader of a gang and lives with the four Noyamano sisters who took him in when he was little. When he is beaten one day by the Skull Saders gang with Air Trecks , he returns home. Out of frustration, Ikki steals a few air-treks and the emblem of the “Sleeping Forest” team to which his sisters belong. However, he only learns of the existence of the team and the meaning of the emblem later. After trying the AT's, an underground AT shopkeeper leads him to the nightly Stormrider meeting. There he challenges the Skull Saders through a misunderstanding . The duel ends in a draw because the leader of the Skull Saders does not recognize Ikkis victory. Later in the story, he and his friends Mikura Kazuma and Onigiri found their own team, the Kogarasumaru . After defeating the Kings of the Night team , their leader Mihotoke Issa aka Fats Buccha also joins them. Agito / Akito, the Fang King, is also part of his team. Now Ikki wants to become one of the eight kings.

reception

According to the German trade magazine Funime , the plot of Air Gear offers little new and follows the usual pattern of combat-oriented anime. Comedy, fan service and sub-plots added variety to the story at the beginning, but later did not come into play or seemed excessive, so that only little varied fights remained. The music is fast and the animation and drawings are quite decent for a television series . The simple characters would be balanced by the background. The German dubbed version was a good success, apart from minor errors.
