Aivaras Bendžius (born January 26, 1993 in Elektrėnai ) is a Lithuanian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Elephants de Chambéry in the French division 1 , the second highest division in the country, since 2018 .

Career

Clubs

Aivaras Bendžius began his career in the youth field with the Lithuanian record champion Energija Elektrenai , for whom he made his debut in the Latvian ice hockey league in 2009 as a 16-year-old . In 2012 he became Lithuanian champion with SC Energija. In the Latvian league it was only enough for middle places. After winning the Lithuanian championship title, Bendžius moved to the Finnish club Tampereen Ilves , for which he was mainly active in the highest Finnish youth league. However, once he was also used in the SM-liiga . Before the end of the season, the then 20-year-old returned to Elektrėnai and in 2013 won the Lithuanian championship title again with the team from his hometown. From 2013 on he played with the Lithuanian team in the Vysschaya League , the second highest Belarusian league. In January 2016 he moved to the Slovenian HDD Jesenice , for whom he played in both the Slovenian ice hockey league and the second-rate Austrian Inter-National League . But for the next season he returned to SC Energija again. Since 2018 he has been playing for the Elephants de Chambéry in the French Division 1 , the second highest division in the country.

International

For Lithuania, Bendžius already took part in the junior world championships. At the Division II tournament of the 2010 U-20 World Cup, he and his team were promoted to Division I.

He made his debut in the Lithuanian men's national team at the World Cup in Division I in 2012 when the Lithuanians were only just able to avoid relegation to Division II with a 3-2 win in the decisive game against Australia . Also in 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 and 2017 he was on the ice for Lithuania at the World Cup in Division I.

He also took part in qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . However, the Lithuanian team failed in the first qualifying round. He also played for his colors at the Baltic Cup in 2016 and 2017.
