Akbank Sanat
Akbank Sanat is an arts center in Beyoğlu , Istanbul . It is located about 200 m west of Taksim Square on İstiklal Caddesi .
The center and the events
Akbank Sanat organizes concerts, exhibitions, demonstrations, conferences and the Akbank Caz Festivali (Akbank Jazz Festival).
The building has six floors. The entrance and the first floor offer contemporary art exhibitions. Works by famous local and international artists are shown. The center has hosted 150 exhibitions so far. The second floor consists of a conference hall that can accommodate 125 people. This hall hosts thematic concerts, Akbank short film competitions, children's theater and seminars. On the third floor there is an art studio where workshops for adults and children take place. A library and cafeteria are located on the fourth floor, while dance workshops and demonstrations are held on the sixth floor.
Akbank Caz Festivali
One of the oldest jazz festivals in Turkey, Akbank Caz Festivali, was founded in 1991. The festival is a member of the European Jazz Network. It became popular because it invited world-famous jazz musicians. However, young musicians were also invited.
The festival has so far taken place in the Aya Irini Museum, Babylon, Cemal Reşit Rey Konser Salonu and Zorlu Center PSM.
