Akdeniz (German: Mediterranean , literally: white sea ) is one of four urban districts of the city of Mersin and at the same time a district of the province of Mersin in southern Turkey . The district, founded in 2008, is located in the east of the province on the Mediterranean Sea. Akdeniz has 276,094 and the district 282,139 inhabitants (as of 2010). Mayor is Mehmet Fazıl Türk, who is a nephew of the politician Ahmet Türk .
