Bozyazı is a county seat and a district in the Turkish province of Mersin . The district is located in the south of the province and borders Karaman in the north . The city itself is located directly on the Mediterranean Sea on the coastal motorway Europastrasse 90 . It is 210 km to the provincial capital Mersin and only 14 km to Anamur . Bozyazı has 15,881 and the district 26,732 inhabitants (as of 2010). Besides Bozyazı there are two other municipalities and 14 villages .
The city of Bozyazı was created in 1987 through the merger of the four villages Ağzıkara, Gürlevik, Denizciler and Çubukkoyağı. The name was borrowed from the plain in which the villages were located. Two years later, Bozyazı was raised to a district.
