Muhammad ibn Yaqub Ala Allah al-Mutawakkil III. ( Arabic محمد بن يعقوب المتوكل على الله الثالث, DMG Muḥammad bin Yaʿqūb al-Mutawakkil ʿAlā Allāh aṯ-ṯāliṯ ; † 1543 ) was the eighteenth and last caliph from the house of the Abbasids in Cairo , who ruled from 1509 to 1516 and 1517. In 1509 he took power from al-Mustamsik , who was Abbasid caliph from 1516 to 1517. Successor of al-Mutawakkil III. became the Ottoman Sultan Selim I.
