Al Herman (born March 15, 1927 in Topton , Pennsylvania , USA , † June 18, 1960 in West Haven , Connecticut ) was an American racing car driver.

Career

Herman started in 11 races for the AAA National Series between 1953 and 1960 . His best placement was a seventh place, which he achieved in 1955 in Indianapolis in a Silnes - Offenhauser , which also earned him the title " Rookie of the Year ". In the same year, he was seriously injured in an incident when his vehicle went up in flames in Milwaukee and was severely burned. In total, he started five times in Indianapolis. During this time, the Indianapolis 500 was part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix series, which is why there are five Grand Prix starts in its statistics.

Otherwise he mainly drove midget and sprint car races. He died in June 1960 after an accident.
