Alain Jacquet

Alain Georges Frank Jacquet (born February 22, 1939 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , France , † September 4, 2008 in New York City , USA ) was a French painter and graphic artist and an important representative of the American pop art movement.

life and work

Alain Jacquet studied architecture at the University of Grenoble and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris . As a painter he was self-taught . He had his first solo exhibition in 1961 at the Breteau Gallery in Paris. In 1961, ar took part in the Biennale de Paris , again in 1965, where he was also represented at the Biennale of San Marino . In 1968 he participated in the 4th documenta in Kassel with 10 graphic pop art works . In the early 1960s he co-founded the art movement Mec'art (Mechanical art).

Jacquet lived in New York City and Paris and taught at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs . He was married to Sophie Matisse , a great-granddaughter of the French painter Henri Matisse . Jacquet died of esophageal cancer in Manhattan in 2008 .
