Alarm für Cobra 11: Crash Time is the second computer game from the development studio Synetic from the Alarm-für-Cobra 11 series. Thematically and stylistically it is based on the television series Alarm für Cobra 11 - Die Autobahnpolizei .

Gameplay

The player takes on the role of one of the two highway policemen Semir Gerkhan or Chris Ritter . Exactly which character the player takes on depends on the course of the current mission. In nine different missions, the police either witness a crime or are commissioned by headquarters to solve a case. As in the TV episodes, there are always chases and shootings in the game. In addition, they are occasionally asked by Hartmut to introduce new technologies, such as B. a drone mounted under the car to test.
Each mission can be played through in three levels of difficulty. By selecting this degree, however, only the time available for solving the mission can be changed.

cars

The playable cars are all based on existing cars and partly also mixtures between different types, only Seat is represented as a brand in the game due to sponsorship. You cannot tune or paint the cars yourself.

A Formula 1 car and a coach can also be driven . The non-playable cars controlled by artificial intelligence are also based on real cars. B. to the Audi A6 , the VW Golf or the Fiat Seicento .

technology

The game is based on the engine from Mercedes-Benz World Racing for the racing scenes , but it has been given an addition called "Pathfinder", which allows AI cars to find their own way in chases, so that there is variety in chases.

Trivia

As in many computer games of this genre, there are also some cheats and Easter eggs in Crash Time . If you enter "nitro" on the keyboard in the middle of the game, the nitrous oxide injection tank is refilled and if you enter "thestreetisotenough" (the road is not enough), the missing "free ride" mode can be replaced because the specified route can be deviated from. If you hit another car too fast, it will explode. Especially in the repetition it becomes clear that there are also wrenches and even Lego bricks under the flying parts . The game was designed with great attention to detail: Things in the game that are actually not visible are also very well designed: On pallets loaded by the AI trucks , there is even a note: Must be returned . In addition, an in-game "billboard" lets a developer say that Synetic's computers are too slow for his job and that he still has too much work to do.

The game was praised by fans and press alike, but many reviewers lack any reference to the TV series. Nico Klein from spieletipps.de writes about "Crash Time":

"[...] If you leave out the Cobra 11 expectation, you will find a really good Autobahn Rasers game, better than most other games of this kind. [...] Fans of the series can safely get behind the wheel."

- Nico Klein : spieletipps.de

He awarded 74 out of a possible 100 points.
Stefan Brauner from Gamingcore praises the graphics and the level of detail, but misses a better implementation:

“Despite many small points of criticism, Alarm for Cobra 11 - Crash Time offers a graphical and, above all, playful progress compared to its predecessor. With more variety, there is now a little more motivation to play. "
