Albert Enke

Albert Enke (born December 11, 1922 in Zeitz ) is a former German trade unionist ( FDGB ) and politician ( SED ). For many years he was chairman of the FDGB district committee in Cottbus and a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Enke, the son of a working-class family, attended elementary school and between 1937 and 1940 learned to be a gas and water fitter . He then did military service and was taken prisoner by the Soviets , where he remained until 1947. He attended an anti-fascist school there .

After his return to Germany he worked again as a plumber. In 1947 he joined the SED . From 1949 to 1950 he was chairman of the administration, banking and insurance union in the Dessau district . From 1951 to 1952 he worked as deputy state chairman of the FDGB in Saxony-Anhalt , from 1952/1953 as chairman of the Magdeburg district committee of the administration, banking and insurance union and from January 1953 to April 1955 as chairman of the FDGB in the Magdeburg district. 1955/1956 he studied at the trade union college "Fritz Heckert" in Bernau . In 1957/1958 Enke was the deputy chairman of the central board of IG Örtliche Wirtschaft and finally from 1958 to September 1988 he was chairman of the FDGB district board in Cottbus. He was also a member of the district assembly and the SED district leadership in Cottbus. In 1958 he was also a member of the last regional chamber of the GDR . From 1960 he was also a member of the federal board of the FDGB. From 1967 to 1990 Enke was a member of the FDGB in the People's Chamber. From 1967 to 1976 he was a member of the Committee for Popular Education and from 1976 of the Committee for Culture of the People's Chamber. In 1975/1976 he attended the party college of the CPSU in Moscow .
