Albert Müller (born August 21, 1847 in Minden ; † October 30, 1925 in Essen ) was a German banker, city ​​councilor of the city of Essen and secret councilor of commerce .

Born as the son of the businessman August Müller and his wife Emilie, née Kreft, Albert Müller attended high school in Minden, which he left at the age of 15 with secondary school leaving certificate, then he served as a one-year volunteer . He then completed a commercial apprenticeship. In 1870 he joined the then advance payment association in Minden as a volunteer .

In 1872 Müller was appointed director of the young Disconto-Bank in Herford . In 1875 he became head of the Westphalian Bank in Bielefeld . Together with the banker Carl Klönne, who he met here, he renovated this bank in 1879. At the Friedrich der Große colliery in Herne , Müller took over the post of commercial director in 1879. Here he met the industrialist Friedrich Grillo , who made sure that he could be elected to the board of the Essener Credit-Anstalt in 1881 . Albert Müller was instrumental in its rise until he was the successor to Richard Bömke as chairman of the supervisory board from 1906 to 1922 . After Müller was almost completely blind, he remained a member of the supervisory board until his death in 1925. He was also a member of the board of the Essen stock exchange and co-founder of the Fürst Leopod colliery in Dorsten .

In addition, Albert Müller was active in social policy. For example, he founded the Albert Müller Foundation for commercial employees and a rest home for mothers, the Castel Sant'Angelo Foundation in Essen - Werden . He promoted commercial training and also held several honorary positions. He also headed the Essen Department of the German Fleet Association .

Between 1897 and 1904 Albert Müller carried out the office of city councilor in the city council of Essen.

On October 24, 1906, he was appointed to the Royal Prussian Council of Commerce , whereupon he became the Privy Council of Commerce on October 31, 1918.

In 1882 he married the daughter of the publisher, bookseller and editor Julius Baedeker , Emmy Baedeker, in Essen . The marriage of Emmy and Albert Müller remained childless.

Albert Müller was buried in the cemetery at Kettwiger Tor . When it was abandoned in 1955 for urban planning reasons, it was transferred to the Ostfriedhof in Essen .

In Dorsten, Müllerstraße is named after Albert Müller.
