Albert Wider (born March 28, 1910 in Widnau , entitled to live there; † March 9, 1985 in Widnau) was a Swiss sculptor , painter , draftsman and illustrator .

Albert Wider was born in 1910 on Bärenstrasse in Widnau as the son of the sticker and smallholder Josef Wider and Katharina Sieber. He attended primary and secondary school in Widnau. From 1925 to 1929, Wider completed his apprenticeship as a stone sculptor with Johann and Josef Köppel in Widnau. After a semester of study at the Louis School in Munich (1928/1829) he worked as a stone sculptor in Zurich and Solothurn .

On his wanderings, Wider found support in society and the teachings of the social reformer Adolf Kolping . After a stay in Morocco , Wider attended the École Nationale Supérieur des Baux-Arts and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris . After a one-year break in August Suter's sculpture studio , where he devoted himself to anatomy, he spent three years studying with Karl Baur in Munich from 1936 to 1939 .

Back in the Rhine Valley , Wider ran his own studio on Bärenstrasse in Widnau from 1943. He found a patron and mentor of his art in the Widnau clergyman Gebhard Ammann . After World War II, Wider spent a year in Rome where he studied ancient and renaissance art .

In 1957, Wider founded the Association of Mission Architects (BMA) and was its secretary. He also worked in the Association for the Uganda Martyrs Shrines (AFUMS) in the same function. His commitment to the interests of the church has been honored with awards and prizes. Wider reached its climax in 1965 with the consecration of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Buchs, whose sculptural jewelry he designed.
