Albert Friedrich Veiel , von Veiel since 1857 , (born June 8, 1806 in Ludwigsburg , † August 2, 1874 in Cannstatt ) was a German doctor and dermatologist , councilor and senior medical officer.

Life

Veiel was the son of the city pastor and dean of Vaihingen an der Enz Georg Friedrich (von) Veiel.

Veiel studied medicine at the University of Tübingen and the University of Paris and received his doctorate in 1829 with the thesis "On insufficient formation of the extremities. An attempt in pathological anatomy."

In 1837 Veiel founded the "Heilanstalt für lichkranke" in Cannstatt, which is considered to be the first skin clinic in Germany.

In the following years he gained an excellent reputation for himself and his institution through his excellent healing results. Among the many spa guests at his sanatorium were members of the European aristocracy as well as numerous celebrities from politics and culture.

Veiel was one of the doctors who made Cannstatt famous as a sanatorium , along with Jakob von Heine (sanatorium for orthopedics) and Heinrich Ebner (sanatorium for orthopedics).

In 1856 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Cannstatt (today part of the city of Stuttgart ). In his honor, a street was named Veielbrunnenweg and a well was built there - the Veielbrunnen - fed by a state-approved healing spring, a sodium-calcium-chloride-sulfate-hydrogen carbonate acid. Since 1857 Veiel had the personal title of nobility as the bearer of the order of the Württemberg crown.

Veiel died on August 2, 1874 in Cannstatt and was buried in the medieval burial place for the Uffkirche .
