Alberto Bottari de Castello (born July 5, 1942 in Montebelluna , Treviso Province , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman, Archbishop emeritus and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Alberto Bottari de Castello was ordained priest for the diocese of Treviso on September 11, 1966 . After graduating from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy , he worked in various Apostolic Nunciatures , including in Zaïre . Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on February 27, 1976 the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

On 18 December 1999 it appointed Pope John Paul II. To Titular Archbishop of Foratiana and Apostolic Nuncio for Gambia , Guinea , Liberia and Sierra Leone . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on January 6, 2000 in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re and Marcello Zago .

On April 1, 2005, he became Apostolic Nuncio in Japan . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 8, 2007 titular Archbishop of Opitergium . On June 6, 2011 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Hungary . He took age-related retirement in December 2017.
