Albertus Beyers Fourie Burger

Albertus Beyers Fourie Burger (born August 26, 1916 on the Steynsrust farm about three miles from Somerset West ; † unknown) was a South African ambassador .

Life

Albertus Beyers Fourie Burger married Geertruida Jacoba Van Der Want. The couple had a son. Albertus Beyers Fourie Burger graduated from the University of Pretoria with a master's degree in economics in December 1937 . From 1933 to 1937 he was employed in the South African Ministry of Defense. He then worked in the South African Ministry of Industry and Trade until 1943. In 1943 he entered the foreign service and was Vice Consul in Tananarive until 1945 and then Vice Consul in Lourenço Marques until 1947 . In the following year he was political-economic counselor at the South African military mission in Berlin. From 1948 to 1950 he was the South African consul in Frankfurt am Main . From 1950 he was a delegation counselor in Cologne-Bonn , where he acted as chargé d'affaires from 1953 to 1954 . From 1955 to 1957 he headed the Politics Department in the South African Foreign Ministry.

From 1957 to 1958 he was Assistant Secretary (Third Class Secretary) in the Politics and Economics Department of the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1958 he was consul in Antananarivo , Madagascar . From 1959 to 1961 he was Counselor in Washington, DC and Chargé d' affaires, as well as a delegate to the United Nations General Assemblies in New York City in 1959 and 1960. From February 13, 1961 to 1965 he was ambassador in Brussels , Luxembourg and headed the South African mission to the European Atomic Energy Community . From 1965 to 1969 he was Under-Secretary (second class legation secretary) in the Africa Department of the South African Foreign Ministry. From 1969 to 1974 he was ambassador to Paris .

From 1975 to 1979 he was the permanent representative of the South African government to the EEC .
