Albin Felc (born May 14 , 1941 in Jesenice , Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav ice hockey player and coach.

Career

At the beginning of his sports career, Albin Felc worked in Jesenice ironworks and received food stamps for use in ice hockey.

Felc began his active career at HK Jesenice in the Yugoslav Ice Hockey League for the 1958/59 season . By the end of his playing career, he scored 458 goals in the national ice hockey league, which was a league record until 1971, and won 14 championship titles.

He then moved to Switzerland, playing from 1971 to 1974 as the first foreigner at EHC Olten , where he was later voted the best player of all time. returned to his hometown club in 1982/83 and coached the Italian SHC Fassa in 1984/85 .

International

Albin Felc was a member of the Yugoslav national ice hockey team from 1961 to 1979 . In total, he scored 82 goals for them and gave 91 assists in 155 games. He represented his country at nine World Championships and the Winter Olympics in 1964 , 1968 and 1972 .

At the ice hockey world championship in Innsbruck in 1964 , he was together with Japan's Masahiro Sato top scorer with 12 goals each, which is an Olympic record. At the B World Championship in 1968 he reached first place with Yugoslavia. As the top scorer, he contributed 6 goals and 5 assists and was elected to the All-Star team. Due to the reduction in the A group, he was never able to participate in an A World Cup even after this success with the national team.

In 1969, he was among the three Yugoslav (Slovenian) ice hockey players who first played in the jersey of a professional NHL team. It was a summer series for exhibition fights. Beside him, Victor Tišlar played for the St. Louis Blues and the goalkeeper Jože Bogomir Jan for the Chicago Blackhawks .

Award

For his achievements he was accepted into the Slovenian Ice Hockey Hall of Fame on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Slovenian ice hockey when it was founded in 2007 . In 2012 he was also accepted into the Hall of Slovenian Sports Heroes.

Private

His daughter Sabina played for the Slovenian national basketball team .
