Albrecht Schnider (born December 30, 1958 in Lucerne ; resident in Flühli ) is a Swiss painter and draftsman .

life and work

Schnider grew up in Flühli-Sörenberg, a rural community in the Entlebuch district . His childhood was shaped by the closeness to nature and the landscape as well as by the influence of the Catholic Church. After graduating from high school, he studied at the School of Design and the University of Bern . In 1987 he created his first portraits , which were shown in an exhibition at the Kunsthalle Bern in 1988 . This was followed by landscape paintings that were created on his father's alp in Sörenberg. At that time Schnider was exhibited and sponsored by the Bern art collector and gallery owner Toni Gerber.

Schnider then spent three years in Italy. First he lived and worked in Follonica near Grosseto , then until the beginning of 1992 at the Istituto Svizzero di Roma in Rome. He spent the last time in Florence , where he discovered the art of Italian mannerism for himself. From 1993 to 1998 Schnider lived in Brussels .

In the summer of 1998 he moved to Berlin with his family . Albrecht Schnider has been living and working in a village on Lake Thun in Switzerland since spring 2018.

Schnider has been a lecturer in painting at the Bern University of the Arts since 2005 .
