Alejo Benedicto Gilligan (born May 7, 1916 in Roberts, Buenos Aires Province , Argentina , † July 18, 2007 ) was an Argentine clergyman and bishop of Nueve de Julio .

Life

Alejo Benedicto Gilligan received after studying philosophy and theology at the Seminary of San José in La Plata on December 6, 1942 in the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján the priesthood . After pastoral work he was professor of Latin and Greek and spiritual at the Pius XII seminary. of the diocese of Mercedes . He was Vicar General of the Diocese of Nueve de Julio .

On July 19, 1969 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed Bishop of Nueve de Julio . The episcopal ordination received his his predecessor Antonio Quarracino , Bishop of Avellaneda , on 4 October of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Córdoba , Raúl Francisco Primatesta , and Auxiliary Bishop Eduardo Francisco Pironio from La Plata .

Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation on August 28, 1991.
