The Aleksandar Nikolić Hall ( Serbian - Cyrillic Хала Александар Николић , Hala Aleksandar Nikolić) is a multi-purpose hall in the north of the Serbian capital Belgrade . It is the home of the three basketball clubs KK Partizan Belgrade , KK Red Star Belgrade and OKK Belgrade . Until February 2016, the venue was called Pionir Hall ( Serbian - Cyrillic Хала Пионир , Hala Pionir ).
history
The hall was opened on May 24, 1973 and belongs to the Tašmajdan Sports and Recreation Center ( Serbian Спортско-рекреациони центар Ташмајдан Sportsko-rekreativni centar Tašmajdan ) in Belgrade's Palilula district in Tašmajdan Park . This facility, which opened in 1958, includes a. the Tašmajdan stadium, an outdoor and an indoor swimming pool, a restaurant and the Hotel Tas , a bowling alley, a fitness studio and the Ledena dvorana Pionir . Hala Aleksandar Nikolić was the largest event hall in the city until the Belgrade Arena opened in 2004.
Over the years the arena has hosted sporting events, mainly basketball, and numerous concerts. In 1977 the final of the European Basketball Championships took place between Maccabi Tel Aviv from Israel and the Italians Mobilgirgi Varese . Maccabi defeated Varese with 78:77 points. The final in the 1998 Saporta Cup was awarded to Belgrade. The Lithuanian club Žalgiris Kaunas defeated the Italian representative Stefanel Milan with 82:67 points. At the European basketball championship 2005 , group C preliminary round matches with the eventual European champions Greece , Slovenia , France and Bosnia and Herzegovina were played in the arena . In 2011 the hall was the main venue, including the semi-finals and the final, the European women's volleyball championship . The hall was one of five venues for the Men 's European Handball Championship 2012 and one of the four for the Women's Handball European Championship 2012 .
On February 23, 2016, the Pionir Hall was renamed the Aleksandar Nikolić Hall on the initiative of Božidar Maljković in memory of the former basketball player and coach Aleksandar "Aca" Nikolić (1924-2000). In addition to the renaming, the imminent expansion of the hall to 10,000 seats was announced.
