biography

Urzì grew up in Bolzano as the son of long-time government commissioner Mario Urzì. He began his professional career as a journalist, initially for a radio station and the local television station Video33 . He later switched to the print sector , where he was, among other things, Trentino-South Tyrol correspondent for the Milan daily Il Giornale and an employee of the ANSA news agency and the Alto Adige daily newspaper .

In the 1998 elections he was elected for the first time for the national conservative Alleanza Nazionale in the South Tyrolean state parliament and at the same time the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol , and was confirmed in the 2003 elections. In 2007 he became the party's state chairman. He asserted himself against the parliamentarian and former state chairman Giorgio Holzmann . As part of the state elections in 2008 , he was able to win another mandate, this time on the list of the party Il Popolo della Libertà . In 2010 he ran successfully in the Bolzano municipal elections, but a short time later resigned his seat on the local council. In the same year he joined the spin-off of the PdL Futuro e Libertà per l'Italia to Gianfranco Fini , from which he soon broke away.

In 2013 Urzì founded the party L'Alto Adige nel cuore , with which he was able to win a remaining mandate in the state elections of the same year with 2.1% and 3,492 personal preferential votes . In 2015 he applied for the post of Mayor of Bolzano: Urzì was only able to collect 12.7% of the votes in the first ballot, but came second in the runoff election against incumbent Luigi Spagnolli , against whom he subsequently scored 42.3 % lost to 57.7% of the vote. In 2017 he negotiated a strategic alliance between his local party L'Alto Adige nel cuore and Fratelli d'Italia .

In the 2018 state elections , Urzì moved into the state parliament and regional council a fifth time with 1.7% and 2,189 preferential votes.
