Alex Balga

Alex Balga (born May 8, 1974 ) is an Austrian theater director who lives in Germany . He became known through his productions at the Capitol Theater in Düsseldorf .

Life

Alex Balga studied acting, singing and dance in Vienna. In 1992/93 he attended the Conservatory of the City of Vienna and 1992–1994 the dance and singing studio of the Theater an der Wien . 1994–1996 he enjoyed his training at the Performing Arts Studios Vienna, which he completed with a stage qualification examination. Before completing his apprenticeship in 1996, he directed The Rocky Horror Show . Engagements at Joseph , Blondel , Grease ( Raimundtheater Vienna, Capitol Theater Düsseldorf, Theater des Westens Berlin) and Les Misérables (Stella Musical Theater Duisburg) followed.

In 1997 he brought Godspell to the stage of the Capitol Theater in Düsseldorf . Two years later he directed the new production of Cabaret in which Anna Montanaro played the role of Sally Bowles. Balga came up with the idea for the world premiere of Miami Nights in the Capitol Theater, co-wrote and directed. The show then went to Vienna for a guest performance in 2004 and on a European tour in 2007. For his performance of Saturday Night Fever (choreography: Arlene Phillips), which was on a European tour from 2004 to 2006, he was awarded the “Star of the Year” in Munich by the evening newspaper and the tz with the “tz-Rose” excellent. In 2006 Alex Balga directed Fame for the Musiktheater Saar and later directed the world premiere of C'est La Vie (Stockerau Summer Festival).

As Artistic Director, Alex Balga was responsible for the German premiere of Monty Python's Spamalot in the Musical Dome Cologne. In 2004 and 2010 he staged the dinner show Tonight , in 2008 and 2009 the dinner shows Last Christmas and That's Life! . Alfons Schuhbeck created the accompanying dinner . In October 2010 Alex Balga returned to Vienna for a short guest performance, where he directed the musical concert gala Frank Wildhorn & Friends with Linda Eder, Pia Douwes and Thomas Borchert at the Raimund Theater. For the series of guest performances by Cats , which has been guesting in several German cities since December 2010, he was the casting director responsible for selecting the artists. In his role as artistic director for the “Mehr! Entertainment “he takes care of the development of new productions and projects.

In 2011 Balga took over the staging of Hair at the United Theaters in Bozen and directed the world premiere of No Pardon - The Musical .

Balga took over the direction of Dirty Dancing's tour and worked on the satirical musical Made in Germany , which was shown in the final of the Creators Competition 2015 in the Schmidt Theater in Hamburg. At Christmas 2015 he staged the musical Vom Geist der Weihnacht in the theater tent in Oberhausen. In 2016 he brought the European premiere of the rock oratorio Messiah Rocks (music: Jason Howland, text: Dani Davis) for the first time staged on the stage of the Raimund Theater in Vienna and the German-language premiere of the Broadway musical 9 TO 5 in the tent palace in Merzig. Then Alex Balga was artistic director at Disney's Tarzan at the Metronom Theater in Oberhausen. In 2018 and 2019 he staged Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert at the Ronacher and the following year at the Raimund Theater in Vienna. In the musical summer Amstetten resulted in the musicals Hair , Rock of Ages and The Rocky Horror Show Director . In September 2019 he took over the management of the Musical Summer Amstetten .
