Thomas Borchert (born July 20, 1966 in Essen ) is a German singer , actor and musical performer .

Live and act

Borchert received his first piano lessons at the age of eight. With his rock band Cakewalk he won the NDR Hörfest music award in 1988 and was also the winner of the German rock award in the pop category . After finishing high school in 1988, she was accepted at the Stage School of Music, Dance and Drama in Hamburg . During his training he got his first musical engagement as Rum Tum Tugger in Cats (1990-91).

The first roles after completing his studies included those of Snoopy in You're Alright, Charlie Brown and Dr. Frank N. Furter on The Rocky Horror Show ; both in Hamburg. The role of the murderer Luigi Lucheni in the musical Elisabeth took him to Vienna for two years. In 1994 he played the leading role in the Buddy Holly story in Hamburg and learned to play the guitar . After an engagement in Schwäbisch Hall in the summer of 1997 in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita (as Che Guevara ), he returned to Vienna and to Elisabeth ; this time in the role of death.

This was followed, among other things, by Jean Valjean in Les Misérables and the roles of Leopold Mozart and Prince Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo in the musical Mozart .

In 2003 he took on the role of "Graf von Krolock" in the musical Tanz der Vampire in Hamburg under the direction of Roman Polański . He took on the same role from 2006 to 2008 in Berlin, from 2009 to 2010 in Vienna, from 2012 to 2013 in Berlin, in autumn 2016 as a premiere cast in Munich, in 2017 in a special production for and at the St.Gallen Theater, for the first time in summer 2017 in Stuttgart, in spring 2018 again in Vienna, in summer 2018 for the first time in Russian production in St.Petersburg, in spring 2019 also in St.Petersburg and again in spring 2019 in Berlin. Thomas Borchert is the only actor who plays the role of "Graf von Krolock" in four countries (DE, AT, CH and RUS), as well as four different productions (Stage Entertainment, New Version of the United Bühnen Wien, Tour production of the Stage Entertainment, Swiss staging).

In 2005 Borchert appeared on stage as the premiere cast in the title role of Phantom of the Opera at the Colosseum Theater in Essen , later this part was taken over by Uwe Kröger , Ethan Freeman and Ian Jon Bourg. In 2006 and 2007 Borchert was a soloist on the best-of-musical tour, which took him through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He made his debut in London's West End in the summer of 2008 as Gaston in Gigi .

In 2009 he played the title role in the musical Der Graf von Monte Christo at the St. Gallen Theater . Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn had written the part of "Edmond Dantès" especially on his vocal cords.

From December 2011 to April 2012 he played Maxim de Winter in the Stuttgart Palladium Theater in the musical Rebecca , based on the novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier . In October 2011 he played this role in the Swiss production at the St. Gallen Theater . Borchert embodied the same role almost simultaneously in two different countries, in two different productions, for the first time and as the only actor to date.

He has been married to the musical artist and actress Navina Heyne since summer 2018. He has a son from his first marriage.

Other musical activities

In 1996/97 he appeared as a soloist in Bert Kaempfert's orchestra , and was also a soloist in Leonard Bernstein's Mass , which was performed in Linz and Nuremberg under the musical direction of Caspar Richter .

In 1999 Borchert released his first album, The Best of Goodbyes , under the pseudonym Tom Reed . In 2000 the CD More than Any Word was released , for which he received the Songpoet Award, and in 2001 the CD Ruthless Lovesongs followed . At the end of 2002 Borchert's fourth CD entitled Thomas' animal themes came out on the market. In the summer of 2004, in addition to his engagement, he also wrote the music for Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream , and in early 2005 his CD Borchert DeLuxe was released . His current solo album Midlife was released in March 2017, followed just a few months later by the Christmas party CD Winged Christmas - My Kind Of Christmas .
