Alex Hoffman

Alex Hoffman (* around 1985 in Washington, DC ) is an American musician ( tenor saxophone , composition ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Hoffman began playing the saxophone at the age of nine; at the age of twelve he began to occupy himself with jazz music. In 2008 he was selected as one of twelve semi-finalists for the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition . Hoffman has worked with musicians including Jerry Dodgion , John Mosca , Richie Vitale , Sacha Perry , Ari Roland , Fukushi Taanaka , Bobby Porcelli , Grant Stewart , Neal Miner and Ralph LaLama since moving to New York in 2005 . The first recordings were made in 2008/09 with Brian Lynch , to be heard on Bolero Nights and Unsung Heroes Vl.1 & 2 . In 2010 he recorded his debut album Dark Lights . Since then, he has performed in venues and venues such as Blue Note , Blues Alley , Kennedy Center , Lincoln Center, and the Jazz Standard . Further recordings were made with Jack Henry ( Nothin 'But Swing ) and with Frank Basile ( Modern Inventions , 2012). In 2019/2020 Hoffman will lead a quintet consisting of Emanuele Basentini (guitar), Gregory Chen (piano), Charlie Himmel (bass) and Scott Lowrie (drums).
