Álex Mumbrú Murcia (born June 12, 1979 in Barcelona , Catalonia ) is a Spanish basketball player . He measures 2.02 m and plays as a small forward . His good distance throw is considered a particular strength.
career
Álex Mumbrú began his career in the youth of Joventut de Badalona . On September 6, 1997 he made his debut in the first team in a league game against CB Girona , but he was used in this and in the following season 1998/99 only sporadically and mostly played in the B-team of the clubs Sant Josep Badalona . From 1999/2000 he finally rose to the first squad of Joventut and made a name for himself as a talented small forward .
In the summer of 2002, the top club Real Madrid signed him . With the “Royal” he reached the final of the ULEB Cup in the 2003/04 season , but he could not continue his performance at Badalona and so returned to his ex-club after two years.
With Joventut he was able to build on earlier performances and after two strong seasons with the Catalans he returned to Real Madrid under coach Joan Plaza . This time he became a key figure in the capital city and celebrated his greatest successes in the 2006/07 season by winning the championship with a 3-1 in the final against arch-rivals FC Barcelona and the ULEB Cup with an 87:75 in the final Lietuvos rytas .
In the summer of 2009 he fell victim to a squad change under Ettore Messina and moved to Bilbao Basket , which was promoted in 2004 . With the Basques , he took on a leading role as a regular player in the position of small forwards and surprisingly led his team to the final of the championship in the 2010/11 season, where they lost 3-0 to FC Barcelona.
National team
Mumbrú, who won the gold medal in the Mediterranean Games with Spain's B selection in 2001 , made his senior national team debut on January 26, 2002 against Greece . He celebrated numerous successes with the Iberians, including winning the 2006 World Cup , the silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2009 European Championship . In June 2011 Mumbrú announced his resignation from the national team and wanted to concentrate fully on his work at the club.
