Alexander Alexandrowitsch Missurkin ( Russian Александр Александрович Мисуркин Aleksandr Aleksandrovič Misurkin ; born September 23, 1977 in Jerschitschi , Smolensk Oblast , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian cosmonaut .

Cosmonaut activity

From August 2009 to February 2011 he took part in training for the ISS . Since January 2011 he has been training for the ISS-33/34 mission and the Soyuz TMA-M as a flight engineer, as he was assigned to the reserve team for the Soyuz TMA-06M mission .

Missurkin set out for his first long-term flight on March 28, 2013. He flew to the ISS on the Soyuz TMA-08M spacecraft . He worked there as a flight engineer for ISS expeditions 35 and 36 . On June 24, 2013 Missurkin undertook his first spacewalk with Fyodor Yurchikhin . The two were performing maintenance on the cooling system of the Russian segment of the ISS. They also installed brackets for power cables for the future Nauka module . Missurkin and Yurchichin also brought two scientific experiments back to the ISS and installed a new one on the exterior of the station. He returned to Earth on September 11, 2013. In August 2016, he was honored as Hero of the Russian Federation and Aviator Cosmonaut of the Russian Federation .

On September 12, 2017, Missurkin started on its second mission as commander of the Soyuz MS-06 spacecraft . Together with Mark Vande Hei and Joseph Acaba , he initially belonged to the ISS expedition 53 . On December 14th, he took command of Expedition 54 . The landing together with Vande Hei and Acaba took place on February 28, 2018.

Alexander Missurkin is married and has two children.
