Alexander Hellström (born April 17, 1987 in Falun ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with IF Björklöven in HockeyAllsvenskan again since 2018 .

Career

Alexander Hellström began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of IF Björklöven , for whose professional team he was active from 2004 to 2007 in the HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the seventh round as a total of 184 players from the St. Louis Blues , for which he however never played. Instead, the defender ran from 2007 to 2009 for their farm teams , the Peoria Rivermen from the American Hockey League and the Alaska Aces from the ECHL . For the 2009/10 season, the former youth international was loaned to Luleå HF by the St. Louis Blues in his Swedish homeland . For this he scored one goal in 45 games and gave an assist.

For the 2010/11 season Hellström left the organization of the St. Louis Blues and joined the HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the Continental Hockey League . After a year in Novosibirsk, he was signed by KHL newcomer HC Lev Poprad in July 2011 , but was also used for HK Poprad in the Slovakian extra league during the subsequent 2011/12 season . Between 2012 and 2015, the defender was on the ice for IF Björklöven and, following the 2012/13 season, he was promoted to HockeyAllsvenskan , Sweden's second-highest division. From the 2013/14 season he acted as the team's assistant captain before moving to Örebro HK in the Svenska Hockeyligan in March 2015 .

In 2018 he will return to his hometown club.

International

For Sweden , Hellström took part in the 2005 U18 World Junior Championship and the 2007 U20 World Junior Championship . He won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Cup with the U18 national team. In addition, from 2003 to 2007 he played numerous test matches for various junior teams in his country.
