Alexander Kirillowitsch Prschewuski ( Russian Александр Кириллович Пржевуский ; born April 27, 1939 in Kostroma ) is a Russian solid-state physicist and university professor .

Life

Prschewuski studied at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Leningrad with a degree in 1961. He then graduated from 1961–1964 with an apprenticeship at the Physikalisch-Technische Joffe-Institut (FTI) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN )). He then worked as a research assistant at FTI and carried out spectroscopic studies on doped crystals . In 1968 he defended his candidate dissertation on the effects of deformations and electric fields on the spectra of crystals.

1971 changed Prschewuski in the Vavilov Institute of Optics and remained there until 1999. Key activities were fundamental studies of the optical properties of glasses , with rare earth - ions were doped. He also examined the structures of the rare earth impurities and their diffusive interaction. In 1987, after defending his doctoral thesis, he received his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences . The focus of his later work was the development of materials for optoelectronics and the empirical classification of the spectra of glasses with rare earth doping.

In 1994 Prschewuski became Professor of the Chair of Optical Materials Science at the State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics Saint Petersburg (ITMO University), which he headed from 1995 to 2002.

In 2013 Prschewuski together with Alexander Alexandrowitsch Kapljanski and SP Feofilow received the RAN Roschdestwenski Prize for spectroscopic investigations of the structure of the impurities and the electron processes in dielectrics doped with rare earth and transition metals .
