Alexander Laesicke

Alexander Laesicke (born July 6, 1979 in Berlin ) is a German politician ( non-party ). Since 2018 he has been the full-time mayor of Oranienburg , a city with around 46,000 inhabitants north of Berlin.

Family, education and work

Alexander Laesicke was born in Berlin and grew up in Oranienburg. He put on Runge-Gymnasium Oranienburg the High School from. He studied economics at the Free University of Berlin and obtained the academic degree of a diploma in economics . After completing his studies, he initially worked as a tax assistant and from 2011 as an assistant to the management of a medium-sized company and as an economic consultant for agricultural companies. In 2013 he moved to Deutsche Bahn AG and worked as a commercial advisor for various companies in the Deutsche Bahn Group until 2018.

Laesicke is a Protestant , married and has two daughters. He is the son of Hans-Joachim Laesicke , who was also Mayor of Oranienburg from 1993 to 2018.

During his studies he went on various cycling trips, including in 2004 from Oranienburg to Jerusalem and in 2005 around the Baltic Sea via Lapland and St. Petersburg . Laesicke reported on his experiences in numerous picture lectures. With his Jerusalem trip he joined a project in which he one of prisoners of concentration camp Sachsenhausen produced clinker to the Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem brought to Jerusalem. He wrote a travel diary about it, which was published in 2007.

Political activity

In 1995 Laesicke joined the Jusos , the youth organization of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Shortly afterwards he became chairman of the Jusos Oranienburg. Two years later he joined the SPD and was elected to the board of the SPD local association Oranienburg. At the same time, Laesicke was involved in the local forum against racism . In 1998 he was elected to the city ​​council of Oranienburg; there he was a member of the social committee.

After completing his studies, Laesicke was re-elected to the city council in 2008 and was a member of the building and works committee. In 2010 he left the SPD. From 2012 to 2015 Laesicke was a member of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party .

In 2017, Laesicke won the mayoral election in Oranienburg as a non-party candidate against seven opposing candidates in a runoff election. On January 8, 2018, he took over the office of full-time mayor of Oranienburg from his father Hans-Joachim Laesicke.
