Wilhelm Alexander Menne (born June 20, 1904 in Dortmund , † March 13, 1993 in Kronberg im Taunus ) was a German manager and politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

After attending secondary school, Menne completed an apprenticeship as a banker. He initially worked as an industrial and export merchant, then became a manager in the industry and was from 1929 to 1939 the director of a chemical company in London . When the Second World War broke out , he returned to Germany. From 1940 to 1951 he was the director of a chemical plant in Westphalia and Hamburg .

Menne was head of department in the Reich Ministry for Armaments and Ammunition from 1940 . In 1943 he was arrested by the Gestapo on suspicion of undermining military strength , high treason , insidiousness and insulting the Führer and imprisoned for ten months. He then went into hiding with farmers in Brandenburg until the end of the war .

After the Second World War, Menne participated in the separation and division of IG Farben . In autumn 1945 he received the approval of the occupying power to found an association of chemical companies and from 1946 to 1956 he was President of the Association of the Chemical Industry (VCI). As a co-founder of Farbwerke Hoechst AG , he was a board member of the company from 1952 to 1970 . He also served as Vice President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) from 1949 to 1968 .

MP

Menne was a member of the German Bundestag from 1961 to 1969 and from May 31, 1972, when he replaced the resigned MP Knut von Kühlmann-Stumm , until the early federal election in 1972 . He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of the FDP Hessen . From 1965 to 1969 he was chairman of the Bundestag committee for economics and SME issues.
