Alexander Michailowitsch Gusjatnikow ( Russian Александр Михайлович Гусятников ; born October 5, 1950 in Tschkalow ) is the former president of the Russian cycling association and current vice-president of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UEC). Until 1981 he was active as a cyclist.

Athletic career

In 1970 Alexander Gusjatnikow won the Irish stage race An Post Rás . In the following years he won several stages of various tours, in 1975 he won the Tour de Bretagne Cycliste . In 1977 he became the Soviet road racing champion.

Gusjatnikow was the captain of the Soviet team in the International Peace Voyage (1970 to 1973 and 1975 to 1978). He took several front places, but never brought in a victory. His best result in the overall individual ranking was 5th in 1972, and in 1975 he was also classified 5th.

He was named the Sports Champion of the Soviet Union .

Professional

From 1985 to 1988 Gusjatnikow trained the national cycling team of the USSR , then he was the sports director of various cycling teams and coached cyclists such as Yevgeny Bersin , Dmitri Konyshev and Pavel Tonkow .

From 2000 to 2010 Gusjatnikow was President of the Russian Cycling Federation, then its Vice President. He is also Vice President of the European cycling association Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC).
