Alexander Weigel

Alexander Weigel (born December 30, 1935 in Zwickau ; died January 13, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German dramaturge , author and editor .

Life

He attended primary school in Döbeln (Saxony) from 1942–1950, and secondary school from 1950–1954, from which he completed his Abitur in Karl-Marx-Stadt . 1954–1958 he studied history at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig a . a. with the historian Walter Bartel , he was also a guest student with Ernst Bloch and Hans Mayer .

He was a member of the university's student theater from 1954 to 1958 and worked here for the first time with the German studies specialist and later director Adolf Dresen . 1958–1960 he was assistant director and dramaturge at the Volkstheater Rostock , 1959 also at the Rügen Festival ( Störtebeker Festival ) in Ralswiek . 1960–1963 he was dramaturge at Theater Greifswald and 1963/64 editor of the magazine Theater der Zeit Berlin.

1964–2001 he was dramaturge at the Deutsches Theater Berlin; 1965–1975 dramaturge for director Adolf Dresen (including Goethe's “Faust 1”, 1968, Isaak Babel's “Maria”, 1970, O'Casey's “Juno and the Peacock”, 1972, and Kleist's “Prince Friedrich von Homburg / Der zerbrochne Krug “, 1975); 1986–1992 Dramaturge for Heiner Müller's productions at the Deutsches Theater: “Der Lohndrücker” (1988), “Hamlet / Machine ( Hamlet Machine )” (1990), “Mauser” (1991). At the Deutsches Theater he also worked with the directors Jürgen Gosch (1993–1997) and Matthias Langhoff (1999).

1985–1992 he re-edited the pages of the Deutsches Theater founded in 1911 by Max Reinhardt . He staged numerous matinees, including the series Theater Expressionismus Berlin with Walter Hasenclever : The Son, Reinhard Goering : Sea Battle, Ernst Toller : The Change, Georg Kaiser : Gas (1987) and Matinees on Alexander Granach (1988); Wolfgang Langhoff ( The Case “The Worries and Power” (1962/63) Peter Hacks ) (1991); Carl Sternheim (1992); Max Reinhardt (1993); Otto Brahm (1995). He worked on several exhibitions in the Deutsches Theater: Alexander Granach (1989); Carl Sternheim (1992); Max Reinhardt (1993); Albert Lortzing and the Friedrich-Wilhelmstädtische Theater (2001).

Alexander Weigel has been a freelance author, editor and lecturer since 2001. He was married to the actress and poet Blanche Kommerell .
