Alexander von Ballestrem

Alexander Karl Wolfgang Graf von Ballestrem (born July 28, 1806 in Ratibor , † June 28, 1881 in Hirschberg ) was a German manor owner and member of parliament.

origin

Alexander von Ballestrem was the son of Carl Ludwig von Ballestrem and his wife Jeanette, b. from Zülow. His grandfather was Giovanni Battista Angelo Ballestrero di Castellengo from northern Italy, who entered the Prussian military service in 1842 as Giovanni Battista Angelo Graf Ballestrem .

The majorate and industrialist Carl Wolfgang von Ballestrem was his brother, the industrialist and politician Franz von Ballestrem his nephew and the majorate and industrialist Carl Franz von Ballestrem his uncle.

Life

Alexander Ballestrem studied from 1825 Law at the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Breslau . At the beginning of his studies he became a member of the Corps Borussia Breslau . After graduating, he became the owner of the manor and later landscape director in Ratibor. In 1852 he was elected to the Prussian House of Representatives in the constituency of Opole 8 . As a Catholic member of parliament in 1852 he was one of the founders of the Catholic parliamentary group. On November 6, 1853, he resigned from his seat.

He married on October 16, 1839 in Klein-Deutschen Mathilde von Hertell (* March 30, 1818; † December 17, 1900). The couple had several children:
